A Space Odyssey - Stanley Kubrick Film Festival 2016 @ Cinema Nova

Adapting a short story by celebrated science fiction author Arthur C. Clark, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY is quite simply an iconic cinematic monument. Sent on a mysterious mission to Jupiter, astronaut Dr. Dave Bowman (Keir Dullea) begins to notice that the spaceship’s operating computer, known as HAL 9000, is behaving in an increasingly threatening manner. A tense showdown between man and machine stretching across space and time becomes one of the most mind-blowing examples of practical space effects ever committed to film, and the film’s exploration of existentialism, evolution, artificial intelligence and extra-terrestrial life was unprecedented, and remains one of the most ambitious pieces of cinema ever made.
