Boom Crash Opera at The Esplanade Hotel

Aussie rock icons, BOOM CRASH OPERA are making their way to the Espy over Labour Day Weekend for a special free entry show! Formed in 1985, Boom Crash Opera exploded on the scene with their debut single, “Great Wall”, which showed they were a pop band who played with a rock attitude. This track along with the follow up single, “Hands Up In The Air”, became anthems for a whole generation of Aussie youth. The band were regular guests on Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum’s must-see weekly television show Countdown. At the height of their popularity, band members such as guitarist Peter Farnan and singer Dale Ryder were massive household names, and their music sales were breaking all sorts of records. Their self-titled debut album followed in early 1987. It quickly went gold and spawned the charting singles “Hands Up In The Air”, “Her Charity”, and “City Flat”. In 1989, new single “Onion Skin” blasted into the Top Ten, ahead of the release of their sophomore album “These Here Are Crazy Times”. The album immediately entered the national Top 40, where it remained for more than a year, notching double platinum sales in the process. The singles “Get Out Of The House”, “Dancing In The Storm” and “Talk About It” all went Top 20, making Boom Crash Opera one of the biggest names in the Australian music industry. There was no Boom Crash Opera break-up or farewell tour. The band remains a part of the members’ lives, even though they’ve all done other things (Maz is part of Mark Seymour’s band, The Undertow, and done time as a major label A&R man; Peter has composed music for theatre; Richard wrote and produced the SeaChange theme and produced several hit albums; Spock is a graphic designer, having done several album covers; while Dale has never stopped gigging).
