The one and only JAMES MORRISON brings his FUNK BAND to Blue Beat for a one-off performance that's sure to sell out. Please book early to avoid disappointment. This special appearance will feature James' renowned jazz virtuosity in a rarely heard setting, "plugged" and with a brand new bag of funky grooves plus an allstar line-up. When jazz legend Miles Davis caused a ruckus by hiring 19 year old electric bassist Michael Henderson from Stevie Wonder's band in 1970, two genres - jazz and funk - came together in a spectacularly creative fashion. The rest is history, as they say.... A new direction in music that continues to thrive, a fusion of brilliant improv skills with the funk of James Brown and Prince and Michael Jackson. Which is a roundabout way of saying that tonight is a celebration of music that makes you wanna dance but at the same time listen to the awesome musicianship up there onstage. Don't worry, at Blue Beat you can do both, the dance floor is rockin' most nights, and we also have the best bar and banquettes for just chillin' to the groove. Of all Australia's musicians it's James Morrison who truly needs no introduction. He's been far and away the pre-eminent jazz musician in Australia for close to three decades. His multi-instrumental virtuosity, his obvious pleasure at playing the music he loves, his mastery of all genres within the jazz idiom, from New Orleans through swing, bebop, postbop, souljazz and jazzfunk, to his work with classical orchestras and superstar aggregations like the Philip Morris Superband, has seen him perform all around the world in venues like the Royal Albert Hall and major jazz festivals, as well as intimate club stages like Blue Beat in Sydney. Not to be missed.
