Maali Festival 2020 @ State Theatre Centre of Western Australia


Maali is the traditional name given to the black swan by the Nyoongar people. Maali Festival is a celebration that will fill the State Theatre Centre with First Nations culture and arts. Welcome to this complete take-over on the land of the Whadjuk Nyoongar people.

An extraordinary event to celebrate and acknowledge the diversity and resilience of the longest living culture in the world and its people.

Taking place during NAIDOC Week, Maali Festival is curated by Black Swan’s Resident Artists Chloe Ogilvie (Yamatji Nhanda) and Ian Michael (Nyoongar). A multi-disciplinary arts festival, with a program of FREE events across theatre, music, dance, film, exhibitions, markets plus family-friendly events and panel discussions. The entire program will be led by First Nations artists, arts companies and community, to tell stories..
