Description:

The Street Theatre is a multidisciplinary performance ideas house in Canberra with a curated program of work created by professional and independent artists.Street Presents, the professional development part of our theatre grows new performance; develops theatre and performance practice (artists and all technical collaborators); challenges and entertains audiences (not necessarily at the same time), undertakes creative development projects through to fully staged performances, presents workshops and forums, and tells Canberra stories.Events are programmed to inspire dynamic community engagement and foster a generosity of spirit amongst artists and audiences. There is a commitment to:- discrete art-form practice- hybrid art-form practice- provocative new ideas- risk-taking in performance practice- developing an informed practice- boldly nurturing surprising and varied relationships- developing new contemporary arts practices , works and audiences.- engaging many different cultural communities - high, low, fringe, mainstream, popular because the boundaries are irrelevant, what is interesting is both the blurring of lines and the friction between them- ACT community, independent, and professional cultural activity mixes formally and informally
