Description:
This picturesque old ground north of the Harbour Bridge in Sydney holds a number of sports events throughout the year including Cricket, Soccer, Rugby League, Union and Australian Rules Football. The Capacity of North Sydney Oval is around 20,000 and the ground contains a number of grandstands, most of which have been relocated from the Sydney Cricket Ground. The ground has seating for around 9,000 people and also has a grass hill on the outer wing. Five light towers provide the ground with good standard lighting for night matches.Former NSL club Northern Spirit played their home games at the venue from club's first year until the end of the 2003 season. In their opening few seasons, they attracted large crowds to the ground including over 18,000 to their first ever home game - the record regular season crowd in the old competition. The ground also hosts occassional cricket games for the New South Wales Blues including Pura and ING Cup games. The Northern Suburbs Rugby Union Club who play in the NSW Club Rugby Competition play their home games at the ground. And it's also the former home of the North Sydney Bears Rugby League Club who played in the NRL until they merged with Mainly to become the Northern Eagles in 2000.Contact (02) 9936 8100
