Formed in 1978, the Defects started out playing classic punk covers to a few friends at legendary clubs like the Pound and the Harp Bar. Their popularity grew to a healthy local following and when the debut single “Dance until you drop” was released in 1979 it sold well enough to attract the attention of Melody Maker's punk journalist Carol Clerk, herself a native of Northern Ireland. Clerk told promoter John Curd about the band and he signed them to his WXYZ label without ever having even met them! After a short but illustrious career including releasing three singles, their debut Lp “Defective Breakdown” receiving favourable press and UK tours with The Anti Nowhere League, The Meteors and even The Clash. A final show with 999 was played before the Defects called it a day in 1984. In 2009 they were asked to reform the band to play at the 2010 Punk and Disorderly festival in Blackpool and they never looked back.
