You may have heard about Melbourne singer-songwriter Lachlan Bryan of late. Perhaps you heard his name when he opened for music legends Steve Earle or John Hiatt, or when he supported UK outfit ahab, or maybe you’ve caught his music in recent months on radio. On the back of stand-out performances at BluesFest and Tamworth Festivals in 2012 and an impressive collection of glowing reviews for both his live shows and his album, Lachlan Bryan is taking the opportunity to head out on his own tour and to officially, if not belatedly, launch his debut album Shadow of the Gun in Sydney and Melbourne and celebrate the release of the second single from the album, Going Straight. The video for Going Straight will be released soon – keep an eye out on his website for that. A ‘morning after’ lament, Going Straightcontains the lyric from the album’s title Shadow of the Gun. ‘I’ve been living in the shadow of the gun, but I’m going straight if I can, so that I can hold onto to my darlin’s hand. Bryan says “the idea of ‘going straight’ and cleaning up your act always sounds better than the reality; but sometimes you get to a point where you have no choice – you’re either literally or metaphorically a prisoner of past mistakes”. The song highlights another beautifully crafted offering from Lachlan’s solo debut. For those making it to the launches in Melbourne and Sydney Lachlan will be presenting extraordinary shows. Lachlan and a slew of very special guests (including Bill Chambers in Melbourne) will recreate the entire album live in the intimate surrounds of The Workers Club, Fitzroy on Thursday June 14, and at The Factory Floor, Marrickville on Friday June 22. The tour dates also include performances supporting Harmony James in NSW and Carl Wockner in Queensland. Lachlan’s live performances always have a sense of occasion, but these rare headline shows are not to be missed.
