It’s been an whirlwind 12 months for emma louise with a raft of sold out shows, international notoriety and an endless list of accolades owed to her intoxicating voice, an honest delivery and, of course, boundless coverage of her single ‘Jungle’. She now returns to home soil with a bout of intimate shows and a new single entitled ‘Boy’- the first taste of her forthcoming debut album due in early 2013. To say that life has changed dramatically for the emma in the last 12 months would truly be an understatement. It all began with the release of her debut EP – Full Hearts and Empty Rooms – a four-track snapshot into the musical mind of a fearless and an incredibly talented young singer/songwriter. Amongst those four tracks was her first single ‘Jungle’, a song immediately embraced by radio that not only garnered the songstress attention from all over the globe, but also grew her already committed fan base beyond what she could’ve expected. But it wasn’t all about ‘Jungle’, another track ‘1000 Sundowns’ displayed a depth to the artist that only comes along once in a while. Further to the rousing interest within Australia – labels from across the globe were soon clambering to work with her but it wasn’t too long before the ears of B1M1/Universal Germany and New York’s indie-label kings Frenchkiss Records were pricked and deals were inked. Her shows in America, including much talked about South By South West showcases, provided the necessary formative steps while back home, tours with Josh Pyke, Boy & Bear and sold out headline shows have certainly cemented a solid live following. ‘Jungle’ continued its reign and snared a #23 slot in triple j’s Hottest 100 for 2011 and the national broadcaster also named her one of their Next Crop artists to watch. In 2012, however, it’s all about making plans and eying the creation of her debut album. Taking all she has learnt in the last 12 months, Emma is now remarkably assured and aptly inspired by the attitudes of the unconventional, the fearless, and the aesthetic of those unafraid to be themselves at whatever cost. ‘Boy’ is the first taste from the sessions - a swaying mid-paced song, it is subtle in its beauty and observations and uncannily sits perfectly between her folk musings and perhaps what those loving ‘Jungle’ might expect. A sure signal of a growingly assured artist - relaxed, yet certain to make her own way.
