Friday 20th April will see the release of Damien Leith’s brilliant new album, NOW & THEN.
The release of NOW & THEN is spearheaded by a new version of Damien’s classic song, “Beautiful”, co-written with Alex Lloyd, which originally appeared on Damien’s debut studio album, Where We Land. This inspiring remake of “Beautiful” is already being heard around the world as the theme song for the new global campaign by perfume giant Estée Lauder.
NOW & THEN is Damien’s sixth album and the follow-up to last year’s massively successful ROY – A Tribute To Roy Orbison. ROY sold close to 100,000 copies, peaked at #2 on the ARIA charts and spent 16 weeks in the national top 10, making it the fourth highest selling album by any Australian artist in 2011.
“Last year was one of the best of my career,” says Damien. “I’m so happy to be releasing original songs that are the fabric of me as a songwriter, as well as being able to pay homage to some of the best songwriters ever.”
NOW & THEN is a mix of Damien’s own beautiful self-penned songs, set alongside a tribute to the members of supergroup The Traveling Wiburys, with Damien putting his own inimitable spin on classics such as Roy Orbison’s “Leah”, Bob Dylan’s “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight”, Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down”, George Harrison’s “(I’ve Got My Mind”) Set On You”, and the Wilburys’ own “End Of The Line”.
The success of ROY was the cornerstone of an unbelievable 2011 for Damien. A national concert tour in support of the album saw Damien and his band playing sell-out shows all around the country. He also managed to find time to compete and make it to the finals of Dancing With The Stars, as well as hosting New Idea Test Kitchen. Add to this the arrival of a brand new baby daughter, Kikki, his third child [little sister to brothers Jagger and Jarvis].
Since being crowned Australian Idol in 2006, Damien has enjoyed the most remarkable of music careers, becoming one of the best-selling Australian artists of the modern era, with combined album sales nudging the one million mark.
With NOW & THEN, Damien Leith gives another nod to the past, but also celebrates his present and future as one of our most popular singer/songwriters. NOW & THEN is fun, deep and beautiful. Get ready to sing along again with Damien Leith and this brilliant new collection of songs.
