Under 18s: Yes

No, not that F-word, but one equally as controversial – Feminism.
On Sunday 4th March, Sydney Opera House will present an afternoon of feisty, free flowing discussion about feminism with two of the world's most fearless international feminist icons - Germaine Greer and Naomi Wolf, as well as a Feminist Forum that discusses its future.
Germaine Greer defined second wave feminism and has continued to inspire and provoke ever since Noami Wolf brought third wave feminism to life with The Beauty Myth. Her recent focus on democracy, citizenship and activism has a new urgency as the Arab Spring and Occupy movements unfold.
In the F-Word’s Feminist Forum, Germaine Greer and Naomi Wolf will be joined by international journalist and poet Eliza Griswold (The 10th Parallel) along with one of the organisers of Melbourne’s Slut Walk Clem Bastow and young human rights activist Samah Hadid.
Equality for women is often taken for granted by young women in the west but many would shy away from using the F-word to describe their beliefs. Is this ambivalence a betrayal of what second and third wave feminists fought to achieve? Does western-style feminism matter globally or will women elsewhere create a new way to think about the rights of women?
These unique close encounters with feminism and the women who have helped shape the path for revolutionary change will be candid, enlightening and highly entertaining.
GERMAINE GREER
Germaine Greer was born in Melbourne and educated in Australia and at Cambridge University in the UK. Her first book, The Female Eunuch (1969), took the world by storm and remains one of the most influential texts of the feminist movement. Germaine Greer has had a distinguished academic career in Britain and the USA. She makes regular appearances in print and other media as a broadcaster, journalist, columnist and reviewer. Since 1988 she has been Director (and financier) of Stump Cross Books, a publishing house specialising in lesser-known works by early women writers.
NAOMI WOLF
American Author, social critic, and political activist Wolf raises awareness of the pervasive inequities that exist in society and politics. She encourages people to take charge of their lives, voice their concerns and enact change. Wolf’s landmark international bestseller, The Beauty Myth, launched a new wave of feminism in the early 1990s. Her next book, Vagina: A Cultural History, will be released in 2012.
