Having been announced for Laneway’s Sydney & Melbourne events, now get ready for a double dose of fun when GIVERS and Portugal. The Man bring their bright breed of psych-pop to Australia early next year for a series of co-headline shows!
GIVERS’ In Light (out now through Liberator) is a vibrant debut album, perfect for the warm summer months ahead and bursting with invigorating melodies, shifting rhythms and an abundance of energy as many will know from their revitalizing first single ‘Up Up Up’ and new single ‘Meantime’.
Nylon Magazine proclaimed their massive ‘Band Crush’ on the Louisiana natives earlier this year and were certainly not the only ones. Metro New York listed GIVERS as one of their favourites from CMJ Music Festival in addition to an abundance of praise from various critics:
“These five young musicians from Lafayette, La., are, as their name says, GIVERS. And what they give is bubbly, fun and energetic while showing some serious musical chops” – TIME
“Their music’s packed with that sort of psychedelic buoyancy, homegrown exoticism…and rattling optimism/joy.” - Stereogum
“The music is charismatic and chaotic, full of shouts, clanging and bright guitars – listen to this with your eyes closed and you’ll see everything short of sparkling blue stars.” - American Songwriter
Alaskan quartet Portugal. The Man released their much anticipated sixth album In The Mountain In The Cloud (out now through Warner) in July. The album is filled with pulsing riffs and rings true to the buoyant rock and roll style that has permeated each album since the band’s 2006 debut. ‘Got It All (This Can’t Be Living Now)’, the infectiously catchy first single was picked up and played on high rotation by Triple J, and the momentum continues to build:
“There’s an uplifting fervour to the bursting melodies and detailed arrangements, as violins saw away dizzily during codas and blues-fuzz guitars tie a bow on a breakdown or three.”– SPIN
“The ambition that permeated from Portugal's earlier work is more present... the band still feels it necessary to edit their songs heavily, structuring them down to the most simple of parts, the instrumentation is too big, bright, and joyous to not enjoy. Plus, the band does let go a bit on some of the songs here, allowing the music to wander indulgently and build tension.” - NME
“The production quality gleams, every hook feels anthemic, and the whole thing is permeated by themes of nostalgia, nature, and togetherness.” – Pitchfork
“For In the Mountain in the Cloud, they piled on the mascara, set the way-back machine for 1972 and turned out 11 tracks full of vintage glam-rock pouting and preening.” – Rolling Stone
Both bands are as renowned for their dynamic live performances as for their irresistible tunes and musical prowess, as those in attendance at all their international shows can attest.
Sydney band Guineafowl have been charged with the task of getting the crowd primed for some serious dancing and as their sleep pop rock debut EP Hello Anxiety (out now through Dew Process) demonstrates, they are sure to impress.
“Serious skills, good looks, and good-time vibe makes Guineafowl a band to keep an eye on — this is a group you can’t help but love to love.” – IndieShuffle.com
“Ever-present, danceable rhythms, anthemic, pulsating, radio-ready, fuck-off catchy ditties… and a palatable stage presence.” – Drum Media
Highlighted as one of Rolling Stone’s ‘Bands to Watch’ this year, the quintet recently supported Foster The People and The Grates to a rousing response.
The tour features a rotating headliner each night with Portugal. The Man headlining Sydney, GIVERS taking the reins in Melbourne and the bands flipping a coin for the top spot in Canberra. Get those hands in the air – with GIVERS and Portugal. The Man teaming up, the party of the Summer awaits!
