Popfrenzy is pleased to announce The Fiery Furnaces’ talented front-woman Eleanor Friedberger, will be gracing our shores and playing a handful of intimate shows this summer.
Eleanor Friedberger is not just the enigmatic mouthpiece of The Fiery Furnaces, one of music’s most interesting, dynamic and constantly exciting bands. In fact, Eleanor Friedberger is an exceptional songwriter herself, playing a variety of instruments and crafting the very sorts of choruses that made you fall in love with The Fiery Furnaces in the first place. She’s a lover of Led Zeppelin and Jorge Ben; she’s a fearless performer, as comfortable fronting a band as she is playing alone on a stage with an acoustic guitar; she’s one of the sweetest alto voices in music. Nowhere is all of this more apparent than on very first solo album, Last Summer, which came out mid this year on Merge Records.
Is this latest incarnation Eleanor’s Big Statement? Alone at Last? See What I Can Do When Big Brother’s Not Around? No, Eleanor Friedberger solo is definitely something more subtle than that. Imagine someone kicking off their shoes, playing some vinyl for inspiration, offering collaborators a cup of chamomile tea and browsing her diary for subject matter. Her music contains a casual confrontation of the most emotionally direct Fiery Furnaces songs, plus a lot of snap, crackle, and pop.
