Three Australian acts fast and steady on the rise are banding together this October to deliver new material and unmissable shows to east coast audiences. The ten members of Brisbane's Inland Sea are bound together by a love of complex harmonies and song writing. Since releasing their debut EP Traitor in mid 2010, Inland Sea have gone from strength to strength. Traitor‘s lead single All Fall Down garnered high-rotation on Triple J, as well as an International Songwriting Award. 2011 has so far seen performances at Laneway and Playground Weekender festivals, as well as support slots for the John Steel Singers/Jonathan Boulet Here’s Johnny tour and the sold out Passenger Flight of the Crow tour. The ten-piece have shared their sound with much of the Australian East Coast and left them wanting more. Their highly anticipated second EP is due for release in October through Brisbane label Plus One Records.
The Rescue Ships is Brian Campeau and Elana Stone’s new project, an ideal marriage of their individual talents. At once complex and immediate the duo combine their modern take on folk, rock and pop. Between them, they name-check influences like Sufjan Stevens, Owen Pallett, the Dirty Projectors and the Wainwrights. Brian’s last album was called “Genuine Genius’ by Drum Media. Elana has been described by the Age as “One of the best singing voices in the country”. Their new video for single “On The Air” has won them a whole lot of laughs and new fans. You can view it here. Jackson Mclaren was born well after many of the classic albums that first inspired him were released. His parents raised him in the small Victorian country town of Warrnambool on a steady diet consisting of the likes of Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen. This musical baptism fuelled his early passion for music, and set him apart from most of the other kids in town who were more focused on footy than on music, poetry or literature. After self-producing many recordings in his bedroom, Jackson recorded his debut EP with 2007 ARIA Producer Of The Year, Josh Pyke. The EP saw Jackson take his show on the road across Australia, touring with the likes of The Swell Season (Ireland), Jay Brannan (USA), Howie Day (USA), Gin Wigmore and of course, the aforementioned Josh Pyke. Jackson’s second EP Mirrors & Strings, produced by John Castle who was recently nominated for an ARIA award for his work on Washington’s debut platinum album, was released in April this year and since forming a full band his live shows are taking on a whole new life.
