Celtic Thunder Australian Tour
Description:

Over the past twelve months, Australians have been quietly discovering what American audiences already know, that CELTIC THUNDER is a phenomenal international hit. With their DVD and CD “The Show” having just gone twice platinum in Australia and their DVD “The Show” still in the Top 30 ARIA charts after a staggering 33 weeks, CELTIC THUNDER is set to tour Australia for the very first time in February 2012.

Celtic Thunder formed in 2008 and comprises of five diverse performers who are each a powerhouse in both their solo and ensemble songs. The group is backed by the dynamic Celtic Thunder Band and their shows are known for the use of dramatic effects of lighting and choreography as well as a stage set resembling an ancient stone pathway suggestive of those referenced in Celtic lore. They’ve now toured the US and Canada, coast to coast, four times with over 200 concert dates and 400,000 concert tickets sold, while their albums have sold well in excess of one million units. They are commencing their fifth tour of the US this September.

“We are blown away by the reaction to Celtic Thunder in Australia. We had such a great welcome when we were out there in March for promo so we can’t wait to get back, and bring The Show out on the road and meet our Aussie fans” said Celtic Thunder’s Keith Harkin.

Sharon Browne, creator of Celtic Thunder teamed up with Grammy-nominated Irish songwriting and composing veteran Phil Coulter to produce a show that included an eclectic mix of songs ranging from the traditional “Mountains of Mourne” and “Come By the Hills” to international hits such as “Brothers in Arms” and “Desperado,” as well as original compositions by Coulter, who has written hits for Elvis Presley (“My Boy”) and the Bay City Rollers, and performed with Van Morrison, Tom Jones, and the Rolling Stones. The ensemble numbers in Celtic Thunder reflect the power of the soloists, who range in age from 19 to 42, and feature songs that celebrate a common Celtic heritage.

“My concept for Celtic Thunder was to feature real men of different ages from Ireland and Scotland” said Browne. “The guys - Emmet Cahill, Keith Harkin, Ryan Kelly, George Donaldson and Neil Byrne — are a real range of Celts.”

In March 2009, Celtic Thunder opened the Saint Patrick's Day Parade in New York City before jetting to Washington to perform a special concert at The White House for President Obama. Since then, Celtic Thunder has performed at illustrious venues including Nokia–LA Live in Los Angeles, Radio City Music Hall and the Beacon Theater in New York, and has performed for the US Troops, Irish Premier Brian Cowen, UN Commisioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson, at the Governor’s Breakfast at NYC’s presitgious Waldorf Astoria.

They were named #1 World Album Artists for 2009 by Billboard Magazine and their three albums featured in the Top 10 World Album 2009 Billboard chart. Their Heritage CD reached #11 on the Billboard Top 200 in March this year.
