CRASS needs little introduction, spawned out of Britain in 1977, they were one of the pioneers of the anarcho-punk movement, and undeniably one of the most influential bands in history. Their political advocacy and DIY ethic saw them managing everything from mail order, promotion, financing other bands, being their own roadies; even printing and folding their own record sleeves. The band dissolved in 1984, after seven albums and just as many exhausting years on the road.

The first of these albums was The Feeding of the 5000 and it clinched them a legion of committed followers, insisting that punk meant so much more than the bondage and safety pin fashions of the time. In 2007 Crass singer and co-founder Steve Ignorant gathered some friends together, and in celebration of this album performed two now infamous shows in London called “The Feeding of 5000” where the album was played in its’ entirety.

Due to an incredible response to the shows, Steve Ignorant has announced plans for a unique one-off tour called The Last Supper, performing and celebrating Crass songs from the period 1977-1982 where he will be backed largely by the same band of friends that performed with him at the 2007 London shows, including Gizz Butt, Bob Butler, Carol Hodge and Spike Smith. Steve is quick to point out that the tour most certainly is not a Crass reunion, and never sought to be. It is instead, a celebration of Crass’ work from a period which he feels the band were at their strongest, most productive and most hopeful.

As well as delivering Crass songs (plus a few other favourites), the shows promise some rather special visuals. Steve stresses that this tour is “The Last Supper”. “After this tour, I will never ever perform Crass songs again”. Australia is lucky enough to be able to see Steve Ignorant and his band performing in June 2011.
