Disco Nap head off on their first southern adventure in April 2010 to launch the release of their first single “The Soft Sell”. Kicking off with a FREE headline show at X&Y on April 9th in their native town of Brisbane supported by Do The Robot. The foursome will then head to Sydney on April 23rd to play at MUM (World Bar) alongside Institut Polaire and Tin Can Bloom. Disco Nap then head to colder climes with a show in Melbourne on April 24th at the Old Bar with Actor/Model, Cuba is Japan and Lee Memorial (solo).
With ‘The Soft Sell’ Disco Nap have already awakened interest across the nation. Unearthed by triple j for the Sounds of Spring Festival late last year, the four piece have an album of material at the ready with their standout track a mere hint of what is to come. Disco Nap tells lyrical tales of life, death, love and family with indie-pop whimsy.
With producer Darek Mudge, frontman and songwriter Ross Hope fleshed out demos in the studio with: Dean Shwereb on drums (Screamfeeder, The Whats), Pip Branson on violin (Something For Kate, Pip Branson Corporation, Infusion), Scott Bromiley on trumpet (The John Steel Singers), Seja Vogel on backing vocals (Sekiden, Regurgitator), Jane Elliott on the cello (Ed Kuepper, The Gin Club) and Disco Nap began to take shape.
The result was something that was truly reflective of Ross and Darek’s musical vision – experimental, yet with catchy pop hooks that could land a belligerent dancing salmon.
Reflecting the incubation period of the record where Ross watched endless episodes of his favourite Alan Ball series, the new film clip for ‘The Soft Sell’ takes on the Six Feet Under tone. It’s a narrative story of following your heart and finding your own path, after all.
With the star cast who helped out on the album all busy with their own projects, Ross searched for new permanent band members to bring the music to life on stage. Disco Nap found these sleep-deprived rockers in the form of Pete Bosworth on drums and Stein O’Rourke-Halls on bass, with Ross Hope at the helm and Darek Mudge steering the instrumentation behind. They’ve since been sharing the stage with Washington, Oh Mercy, The Boat People, Bertie Blackman, Sherlocks Daughter and many more.
