Description:

Sydney band The Maladies will be launching their latest single This Wood And This Wire and performing tracks off their highly acclaimed debut CD With You Right By My Side, Baby The Deal Just Can’t Go Down (out now via MGM) this March in Sydney and Melbourne. After playing a bunch of album launches late last year, and earning plenty of community radio airplay, including being playlisted on FBi Radio (Syd) and receiving many glowing reviews including Album Of The Week in Brag Magazine (Syd), the band are dead keen to get back out on the road. The single This Wood And This Wire is available as a free download on their myspace

The Maladies inventive take on folk-rooted Rock n roll swings wildly between erratic guitar noise, shrieking vocals and driving swamp beats, to chain gang antiphony and haunting traditional melody. Their distinctly powerful live shows exhibit musicianship and zeal that all too often leaves the audience unsure whether to weep applaud or perform an exorcism.

The album was recorded in a mammoth effort of five days with a limited budget. The band were very capably assisted by producer Jamie Hutchings (Bluebottle Kiss), and Jamie’s love affair with recording entirely to 24 track tape resulted in a polished, fat-trimmed affair of nine tracks which strike a balance between capturing the raw cacophony of The Maladies live show, whilst still utilising the studio as some kind of creative tool.

As a member of Psychonanny and The Babyshakers, I happen to know we're not playing this show anymore.
I believe they've since brought in The Shaking something or others. Howls maybe?
