Thriving and following the steps of independent acts before them, benjalu is a band that prides themselves on the old school approach of touring to promote their music. An approach that has seen them gain respect off their supporters, new audiences and critics.
The last two years has seen the lads travel the highways in their van clocking over 300 shows, release two independent EPs, share the stage with some great bands, win a hand full of awards and have many amazing experiences along the way.
Since forming in 2006, benjalu’s sound has been developing with each new song that is written. They have found a unique new way to keep listeners interested. Nick Milligan from Reverb Magazine writes “benjalu prove they aren’t ready to be figured out just yet”, A comment that the boys were pleased to hear.
Ben’s voice has been compared to a male version of Tracy Chapman, Toni Childs and Eddie Vedder. Benjalu mix catchy rock grooves and warm bass lines and infuse genres such as blues and roots, jazz and contemporary rock to maintain a fresh sound.
Benjalu have received excellent response with songs getting airplay on various radio stations all over the country including JJJ and ABC. They were awarded the best blues and roots artist and best young talent of the year for 2009 off ABC.
