Description:

The first thing you notice about The Jed Rowe Band is the slide guitar - lap steel ringing and wailing with echoes of Ben Harper or Jeff Lang. Then the groove grabs you, double bass and drum kit locked in watertight. As you listen closer, the depth of the songwriting reveals itself - stories told through poetic lyrics, characters moving through Australian towns, living real lives...and you're humming along to the chorus...this is The Jed Rowe Band!

With the release of their debut full length album "Midnight Sun" in August 2009, this Melbourne based act has emerged as a worthy contender on the Australian music landscape. Launched at Melbourne's East Brunswick Club in September 2009, the album has received airplay on JJJ, ABC 774 and key community radio stations across the country. It features a host of guests including drummer Peter Wilkins, of Blue King Brown, and legendary saxophonist Paul Williamson, resulting in a richly layered work with stunning string, brass and percussion arrangements.

The Dwarf wrote "A powerful album...It's the diversity of folk, blues, reggae and rock that shows off such a diverse talent of melody, rhythm and storytelling."

The Jed Rowe Band live are a force to behold. Rowe himself is a seasoned performer, having toured much of the country promoting his 2006 EP "Life," and supported some of Australia's best roots artists, including Ash Grunwald, Clare Bowditch and Dallas Frasca. He is joined by a rhythm section hand picked from the Melbourne music scene - Michael Arvanitakis on double bass and backing vocals, and Mark Grunden on drum kit. Joel Smithard is a regular guest on keyboards and guitar. Since it's inception in 2008 the band's hard work on the live scene has built them a healthy buzz, taking in residencies at The Espy and The Wesley Anne, tours of regional Victoria and shows at some of Melbourne's best known venues including The Northcote Social Club and The East Brunswick Club.

The Jed Rowe Band's debut album "Midnight Sun" is available now at all good record stores, on iTunes or for mail order from www.waterfront records.com. Distributed by Green Media Distribution/MGM.

“It is not an exaggeration to say that Jed Rowe has a rare talent for songwriting” - The Goodtimes

“Rowe’s ability to get you singing along to nearly every song is a testament to his songwriting.” - Beat Magazine

:…infuses his lap steel guitar and soulful vocals with elements of funk, rock and world music to produce a sound that is both fresh and distinctive. - Hobart Mercury

Downloaded the whole album on iTunes a few weeks ago. Took me a little while to get right into it, now they're my new favourite band!
