Something wicked this way comes.
With their debut album The Parallels Amongst Ourselves being greeted with rave reviews across the country
Perth’s SUGAR ARMY prepare to march on Australia for their national August/September album tour.
The band have recruited locals in each city to help fly their flag:
Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire! and Quiet Child will help rally the troops in Adelaide, while Foxx On Fire and Bone are on
duty in Melbourne. Buick Six will be on the frontline in Byron Bay, the Gold Coast and Brisbane with Comic Sans joining
the march in Brisbane. Here Come The Birds and special guests will make their stand with Sugar Army in Sydney.
Featuring the staggering singles and triple j favourites ‘Acute’ and newbie ‘Tongues In Cheeks’,
The Parallels Amongst Ourselves debuted at #2 on the AIR Indie Album Charts, and #87 nationally and #39 in WA
on the ARIA Album Charts. It also earned love as Album of the Week on RTR FM and SYN FM.
Sugar Army have kept themselves busy since the release of their delicious record in July.
The band’s hometown launch sold out less than half an hour after doors opened so to meet Sugar
addicts’ demands they booked more and bigger shows at the Prince Of Wales in Bunbury
on Thursday 1st October and Capitol in Perth on Saturday 3rd October.
Drummer and visionary James Sher also makes his directing debut on the new Tongues In Cheeks clip.
The somewhat disturbing yet brilliant video sees the band slip into creepy mode to face-rape a man with food torture. The experience is so sick and intense a camera assistant
burst into tears onset during filming. She’s okay now.
Sher comments: “We (Sugar Army) set out to explore the symptoms of overconsumption as one
unfortunate subject is overfed into oblivion. We’ve set up this experiment to document the full effects of
over-eating, gluttony if you will, to hopefully open minds more to the ever-increasing culture of our western
decadence. A pig’s head on a silver plate can, however, be mighty tasty too – let us all
marinate ourselves in excitement for the upcoming feast!”
It is still early days yet but Sugar Army have already developed a reputation for their spine-tingling live shows,
as proven by their sell out show last week and an invitation to play HomeBake 2009 – 15th Anniversary,
the music festival that features the finest of local Australian artists.
Make sure you nab tickets to see one of Australia’s most exciting young rock bands,
Sugar Army, while you can!
