Description:

Get in a dancing mood with rude boy royalty, as King Tide celebrates the release of their sensational new album, 'ROOTS POP REGGAE.'

King Tide invite listeners to get on the bus and to help them herald a new era in Australian reggae.

Renowned on the live scene for their high-energy performance, King Tide was on the road non-stop in 2008. Now after a short beak, the band is back with a new show and a brand new sound. This new 12-track album is a veritable Rasta feast, offering up an atmospheric blend of scratchy chop guitar, freedom lyrics and sexy pop rhythms. Sweet hooks and tightly structured songs abound on this album in a bright fusion of dancehall, soul and pop.

Paul Snatch (Large Rabbit, Radio Freedom) and Tony Hughes (Belly Dance) bring their wild observations to the fore in tightly polished array of songs as they sing about family, life and Australia beyond the John Howard polemic.

“This is a celebration of a new political era,” says lead vocalist and King Tide MC Tony Hughes. “The neo cons and the fiscal conservatives have gone. It’s time to live a bit more and start thinking a little more altruistic. Make poverty history. Cheaper drugs now!”

Simple, short songs are deceptively clever, with each vocalist counterpointing their infectious on stage reggae and pop machismo. This year King Tide manage create a refreshing and upbeat mood with a new sound that is cheeky, catchy and unselfconsciously pop.

Rock Steady 1 year ago
I saw them as the backing band for Jamaican legends Dawn Penn and Stranger Cole a couple of weeks ago at the Annandale and I haven't ever seen a Australian band playing such incredibly authentic Rock Steady Reggae music.
