Description:

"Jordie Lane is an emerging star". - Jeff Jenkins, Music Australia Guide

"When you listen Jordie Lane’s songs, you’ll hear he has one of those classic voices. In some tracks, you can hear the velvety timbre of Leonard Cohen. In others, it’s the jokey snideness of Loudon Wainwright lll, or the country whipped vocals of Willie Nelson”. - Benjamin Law, Frankie Magazine

Melbourne’s Jordie Lane announces the release of his much anticipated debut album Sleeping Patterns, released on 12 June 2009.

After four years brewing in the sub-conscious of Jordie’s mind, the record eventually came to fruition in the winter of 2008. Recorded live in little more than five days in the open warehouse space called Adelphia in Melbourne, Sleeping Patterns is a raw and gutsy, but also at times fragile and dark collection of tales that cannot be put simply onto one particular shelf.

With the assistance of a Vic Rocks Recording Grant, Jordie was able to have the imaginative minds of renowned roots artist Jeff Lang and the pop sensibilities of Tim Hall on board to co-produce the album, with their trusty engineer Mick Wordley behind the console. Jeff and Tim’s approach was to build a sonic landscape that hung around each song and in particular Jordie’s words always at the core.

Over the past few years he has become a much talked about up-and-comer by the press and punters alike. Much of this would be attributed to his tireless dedication to playing live shows and festivals, but also his collaboration with Canadian songwriter Tracy McNeil under the guise Fireside Bellows, who are still receiving stunning accolades for the 2008 release No Time To Die.

With his unique finger-style guitar, blues harmonica and a commanding voice, Jordie’s love for American folk, blues and country music such as Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Hank Williams and Gillian Welch are evident in his sound. But he’s not trying to re-hash anything. He’s telling his stories, about his experiences. And he does so with a remarkable sense of clarity and awareness considering he is only 24 years old.

The release of EPs Ill Communication (2005) and Lovers Ride (2006) saw the talented musician receive extensive local airplay, play several extensive Australian tours, sell out several shows at the Spiegeltent, and play a stand out performance at Port Fairy Folk Festival. Jordie has also supported major touring acts Loudon Wainwright III, Gotye, Jeff Lang, and Kate Miller Heidke and Alex Lloyd. This has all helped cement his place in a new breed of artists who once again believe primarily, in the power of a good song.

2009 will see Jodie Lane release Sleeping Patterns, complete an extensive national album launch tour, and make appearances on ABC TV’s Spicks and Specks and Sunday Arts programs. Catch Jordie at a venue near you throughout June and July!
