Sydney quartet MERCY ARMS are to release their debut album August 16th.
They have collaborated with legendary producer TONY COHEN, famed for producing timeless records by The Birthday Party, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, and the Dirty Three. The mixed the album also in Melbourne with TONY ESPIE, the man most regarded for his work with The Avalanches and Cut Copy.
MERCY ARMS have drawn comparison to the classic pop of The Smiths and the noise-guitar mastery of My Bloody Valentine, emerging as possible next of kin to their antipodean forefathers The Triffids and The Go-Betweens.
Unpredictable, volatile and brilliant, the MERCY ARMS live show has already become part of Australian music's rich underground tapestry. Hypnotic rhythm, deafening fuzz, a singer in Thom Moore who feels every note. Julian Sudek ferociously bashing the skins, Ash Moss weaving intricate basslines, Kirin J. Callinan graciously torturing his guitar like the virtuoso lovechild of Kevin Shields and Ziggy Stardust.
The self titled debut album ‘MERCY ARMS’ is deservingly anticipated as one of the releases of 2008.
