A massive hit with audiences when he toured the country with ‘Russell Peters & Friends’ earlier
this year, Asian-American stand-up comedian Jo Koy returns for his first solo Australian tour.
Recently named as one of the "10 comics to watch" of 2007 by Daily Variety, Koy is famous for his
quick wit, infectious on-stage energy, sharp observational humor and inspirational family-based
laughs.
His performance covers a variety of topics from his ambiguous ethnicity and growing up with a
Filipino mother, to male-female relations and personal stories of life with his 3-year-old son. His
unique stand-up, dynamic energy and loud stage presence has audiences convulsing with laughter
and is a big hit with fans of all ages and racial backgrounds.
Koy’s impressive comic background spans more than a decade, but his major break into big time
comedy came at the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival. His unforgettable performances led to an
invitation to perform on Jay Leno’s "The Tonight Show" early the following year where he received
a standing ovation. His lively physical presence and charismatic personality has since made him a
regular on the show. Soon after he was invited to join Carlos Mencia’s “Punisher Tour” and spent
the next 12 months performing stand-up at 10,000 seat arenas across the US.
The comedy world is now very aware of Jo Koy. His credits include opening for headliner acts of
Dave Chappelle (Chappelle’s Show), Snoop Doggy Dogg and most recently Robin Williams. He
just locked in a deal with Comedy Central to do a one-man special as well as to develop his own
sitcom. He is a regular featured comedian at the world famous Laugh Factory, tours the college
circuit nationwide and performs in comedy clubs in Canada and the US. He lives in Los Angeles.
