Description:

The Frontier Touring Company is thrilled to confirm the debut of Vampire Weekend to Australian audiences this August. In addition to appearing at Splendour In The Grass, Vampire Weekend will also perform headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne. Support for all shows will come from Melbourne’s Little Red.

Music lovers have been bitten by the Vampire Weekend bug following the release of their self-titled debut album (available now through Remote Control) earlier this year. From humble beginnings – the band’s profile first began to build via various blog postings – Vampire Weekend have now become 2008’s fully fledged ‘it’ band.

However, music fans aren’t the only ones with a taste for Vampire Weekend’s unique Afro-pop styling. Critics the world over have succumbed to the Vampire Weekend charm.

Q Magazine claimed the band to be “Extremely inventive, a little uptight and slightly high on their own cleverness, Vampire Weekend are the musical equivalent of a Wes Anderson movie,” going on to declare: “World domination, here they come.”

Vampire Weekend were the first band to ever appear on the cover of Spin before releasing an album, with Spin announcing them as “The Year’s Best New Band”.

Uncut were smitten and elevated the band above most others: “Cosmopolitan, anglophile, afrobeat – Vampire Weekend are in an Ivy League of their own.” Alternative Press followed suit, naming the album “one of the most inventive in recent memory.”

The New York Times were impressed: “the sheer cleverness of every track is endearing.” And The Telegraph noted Vampire Weekend as “one of the most likeable live bands around.”

Support act, Little Red, are nothing short of an exhilarating live experience. Building their reputation through constant gigging, Little Red has become a well respected name in Australia’s live music scene. With a fine touring pedigree – the band have played Big Day Out, V Festival, The Falls Festival and St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, and supported Spoon, Shout Out Louds and Youth Group to name but a few – you can expect these boys to bring their best this August.

Combining one of the world’s most desired bands with one of Australia’s most revered bands will result in only one thing: sold out shows.
