Tucked away in a little side street of Balmain/Rozelle – “The Welly” (as it's affectionately known by the regulars) is over 130 years old and so named, according to legend, because the original owner gave a warm welcome to an Irishman and his dog Winston. The Welcome is one of those pubs that seem closed until you open the door, allowing the hum of conversation, the clink of glasses, muted music and laughter to spill onto the street. The dining room opens onto a leafy courtyard with a fern border which is covered and heated that can be used all year. Head chef Graham Johns serves up a contemporary modern European menu in the restaurant area and a hearty bar menu in the bar & beer garden areas featuring our famous Guinness and Beef Pie. At the back of the hotel is our sun-drenched beer garden. The beer garden has been kept open air and is one of the last in the Balmain/Rozelle area. The core aspect of the hotel is hospitality, boasting exceptional bar and restaurant menus, a distinct Irish influence and friendly service…. “You're always welcome at the Welcome!”
