A week after taking on the Soundwave Festival, Big Day Out promoter Ken West has taken aim at his dance festival rivals, the Future Music Festival. In an interview with FasterLouder, West attacked Future's decision to bring out New Order, saying,
New Order are amazing, but without Peter Hook they’re not New Order – simple as that, so I don’t know what Future were thinking. I couldn’t do it because I’m Hooky’s mate; I like Bernard [Sumner] and Gillian [Gilbert], but it’s like “damn, that’s a shame” – it’s not as bad as INXS, but they should have just called it a day. It was a legacy there – don’t ruin it. I was in the studios when they were rehearsing Blue Monday – that hasn’t yet been released anywhere, and I thought “that’s all right – that might sell!”
Ken West also took aim at the typical dance festival crowds, saying,
At least we don’t have a problem that dance festivals have where everyone takes their shirt off and some of them are on steroids and are picking fights.
With Big Day Out coming up next week and still showing no signs of selling it it looks like Ken West has no fear. Stay tuned to Liveguide to hear who he takes on next. And click here to win tickets to Big Day Out!
