Thanks to Niche Productions, Liveguide is giving away a double pass to each show on Shapeshifter's national tour.
Shapeshifter, voted New Zealand’s best live act, is back on the road performing the electric and cutting edge set they are known and loved for. To top this off they are releasing their first live album with tracks from their epic orchestra tour.
Since blowing heads at the Parklife festival across the nation in September, Shapeshifter have toured throughout Europe twice, had huge tours throughout New Zealand and have internationally released a vinyl of “One” with a DBridge (Exit Recordings) remix to great critical acclaim.

At the tender age of 14, I found myself - flute in hand - standing on stage in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House being judged for the Eisteddfod. It was absolutely terrifying but a life changing moment all the same.

My mother sent me to piano lessons while I was at school and I loved to play the piano by ear but hated learning scales and one day I was sitting my first piano exam and the examiner asked me to play a scale (can't remember which one now as it was over 10 years ago) and after 2 wrong attempts the examiner had to tell me exactly which notes to play. It was very embarrassing. The examiner gave me a really good mark anyway based on my song playing skills. I still love playing the piano today but still prefer to learn songs by ear - which I'm sure would make my old music teacher turn in her grave. |

A musical experience which changed my life was experiencing MUSE live at Riverstage in Brisbane. After being a huge fan for so many years, seeing MUSE rise from barely known band to international success. I was filled with Joy and pride for the band as the totally rocked out. It was a delight to the senses as the crowd surged and sang as one to the fantastic sounds and visual show MUSE put on for us lucky Brisbane kids !!! |

Dunedin 2007, Shapeshifter NZ Tour at Union Hall. Was a horribly freezing Dunedin night out, a stressful time in my semester but the music warmed me and my flatmates to the core and we left all our uni stresses behind! We ran home in the rain, and still so amped from the concert started blarring Shapeshifter cds till the early hours:) A truly epic night of nz's finest drum n bass action - just thinking about it makes me smile and the music reminds me of home:) |

| Back in about '86 in a small venue called the Riverside in Newcastle (U.K.) - watching a 'new' Australian band that was being whispered about - that was when my affectionwith the Go-Betweens began - their down to Earth approach - talking amongst the crowd, sharing beers at the bar with us, and knocking us out with a great set. I guess that's when my love affair with Australia began and it hasn't ended! |

Seeing Shapeshifter LIVE in the Christchurch Town Hall with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra - Their first ever orchestra gig. To see one of my fave artists play in their/my home town.... and the entire town hall filled with people all there on the best buzz, the atmosphere was truely amazing and it honestly did change my life. |

| I played the Trumpet for over 10 years during my school days. I played at numerous concerts, eisteddfods, formal and informal gigs.. A moment that I will never forget is when i played The Last Post in memory of my grandfather at his funeral - he served time in WW2. I felt as though I was honouring a true hero and a great Australian and from that moment on, I have never felt soo (emotionally) connnected with my grandfather.. |

Oh, easily the most life changing musical moment would be outside the Dresden Dolls gig in '06 when The Red Paintings were supporting.. I was in a bad state and was outside talking to the drummer of the Red Paintings for ages, until he went inside and brought the rest of the band out and got the singer (Trash) to sing my favourite song of theirs to me to make me happy again :)
I have a design drawn up of those lyrics to get tattooed. Just need the cash for it..
It was perfect and I will never forget it. |

Ooooh. Ok. Glastonbury 2003 I was mashed to the hilt on various substances as Radiohead strolled onto the main stage. From my vantage point on the hill, I watched them kick off their set as 5 chinese lanterns were released and floated from the stage into the early evening twilight, just as a bank of fog came rolling in from the southern England coast. A wholly surreal experience as the lads plied their haunting melodies in a shroud of England weather. It doesn't get much better. It blew me away in fact, and afforded me the wonderful realisation that my current life was bullshit, and ending one second at a time. So, over the ensuing months I picked myself up, sorted myself out, and left the UK, and am now on the verge of knocking off my med degree so I can be let loose in the hospital. A fire and drive ignited by the most spiritual experience of all - Radiohead at Glastonbury. Awesome.

I had never heard a shappeshifter before untill one night in september 2006 when a few friends and i was just walking down the street in richmond after a few beers to catch a train home.
We passed the Corner hotel and a nice kiwi guy comes up to my friends (whos also kiwi) and told us to come in and check these guys out. I really didnt want to but was dragged inside by the others....
In all honesty when these guys came on i was blown away.
I had never been into drum n bass and dub. But from that day these guys opened my mind and gave me a great gift of awesome music.I'll always remember that night as the turning point for me.
When they played Shakedown... i felt lost in the music and loved every minute of it.... i found a band that would remain playing most mornings for the last 2 years on the way to work and comming home.. let alone the weekends!
That night we all ended up missing the last train.. taxi costed $45 and i didnt turn up for work the next day.
But it was all worth it and so much more. |
