Revesby Workers Club, Sydney

Sydney’s Revesby Workers Club rocked hard last Saturday – and loud! – with The Angels, supported by local rockers Black Label, who definitely set the pace for the evening.

With musical influences such as AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, ZZ Top and even The Angels themselves, their hard-edged brand of blues-rock was a perfect warm-up for the legendary Aussie band.

Black Label is a hard-hitting five piece rock and roll band hailing from Sydney’s south western suburbs. The band features guitarists John Ford and Ross Flynn; Laurie ‘Loz’ Marlow on bass; drummer Geordie Muscat and the powerful vocals of Steve Mulry (brother of the late Ted Mulry).

Opening with Brothers In Arms, their high energy set was packed with a great selection of original tracks including Big Talker, Shake It Baby Shake It and Lawless Street.

The decibels seemed to increase as the guys blasted through their set, quite possibly blowing out a few eardrums along the way. Steve Mulry’s impressive vocal range soared through songs like the soulful Addicted  and Fallen Angel

Winning over a packed house of Angels fans hanging out to see their long-time favourite band perform isn’t easy. But this band seemed to achieve it easily with a slick and tight performance, pulled together by a set of strong rock melodies and catchy lyrics.

The boys from Black Label will be supporting The Angels on the NSW leg of their national tour and are playing more shows this week if you want to catch them. If you like your rock and roll loud and with a bit of a bluesy edge, this is a show you won’t want to miss.
