It's hard to choose just one favourite but if forced, I'd pick 'Pillars of the Earth' by Ken Follet

"He's just not that into you!" The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys...

by Greg Behrendt (Author), Liz Tuccillo (Author)

This book does not hold back and gives the bold truth about silly things we will do to not accept that a guy is not interested.   What I took away from this book and will continue to remember is that life is too short to pine for things that aren't meant to happen.  It is not a feminist book for women only, it is a book that shows that self respect is always the best way to approach a new companion.  Greg shows how men appreciate women but they need to learn to appreciate themselves too!

"A confederacy of dunces" by John Kennedy Toole. Brilliant work, pity he wasn't recognised before, well you know. Google it.
