Thanks to Icon Film Distribution, Liveguide is giving away 10 double passes to see Dan Castle's new local drama Newcastle!

Set in the coastal town of Newcastle, this visceral action drama is a coming-of-age tale of elusive dreams and the eternal wave.
Combining sublime surfing beaches with the raw energy, music and rebellion of teen culture, Newcastle tells the story of 17-year old Jesse who lives in the shadow of his older brother Victor.
Jesse is determined to win the Junior Surf Pro final and to succeed where Victor failed. Winning would mean a one-way ticket out of Newcastle and a career beyond his pre-destined future – working on the coal barges.
As a diversion before the finals, Jesse and his mates plan a weekend away with some local girls. Much to his dismay, Fergus, his geeky, twin brother gets to tag along. But when Victor and his gang arrive at the isolated beach an unofficial contest ensues.
This momentous weekend leads them to discover themselves and what’s really important.
To be in the running to win, just name for your us favourite Australian film, and tell us why. Entries close Monday November 3.

Dirty Deeds and the Castle. I love laughing at the raw 'kitschness' of Australian culture represented in these films. As I grew up on the coast, Puberty Blues and Bra Boys have alot of cultural resonance with me too, they'd be close behind... Their Australiana qualities mean you can really empathise with the characters, it's uncanny how 'close to home' they get. Australian films rock! |

'Beneath Clouds' A brilliant movie!! If you haven't seen it i strongly suggest you do so. It's a brilliant Australian drama with insight into outback Australia and is humourous in places, while showing beautiful scenery! A truely GREAT Australian film & my favourite! cheers. |

so many....so many..........but i'd have to say: 'Red Rock' -based on a true story. -A gritty Australian film that includes great 80's humour and fashion (although a little cringeworthy at times and a strong theme of coastal power trips and violence). |

I would have to say "Shine", for the great acting, and a true story well-told about a marvellously talented Australian. |

IDIOT BOX! IDIOT BOX! IDIOT BOX! With Ben Mendelsohn and Jeremy Sims. Two unemployed, bored blokes decide to do a bank robbery. Written & directed by David Caesar. That beautiful balance of comedy and poignancy that we Aussies seem to capture so well. (Also, it has the best soundtrack ever: You Am I, Crow, Magic Dirt, Hoss, Mark of Cain...) |

'Cosi' - brilliant characters each revealing how fragile human beings really are, yet told in such a way to find the comedy in either their sadness or their madness. And an amazing cast. And 'Gallipoli'. A film that emraces the essense of the Australian spirit, mateship, the ANZAC legend and the tragic waste of life war is. |

The Castle - because it's an honest, funny and authentic Australian film. Especially because of the great characters. |

I like Ten Canoes, as it was a unique story that is not often told. It took Aboriginal culture to the international arena. |

My pick is "Bra Boys". I grew up on the same beach as these guys with a steady mix of fear and awe. This film made me understand about their origins, and showed me, both the generosity and loyalty of these guys, and about the hidden history of the suburbs I grew up around. Hopefully "Newcastle" will do the same for the "Newie locals". |
