Thanks to Icon Films, Liveguide is giving away 10 double passes to see The Baader Meinhof Complex!

Germany in the 1970s: Murderous bomb attacks, the threat of terrorism and the fear of the enemy inside are rocking the very foundations of the still fragile German democracy. The radicalised children of the Nazi generation led by Andreas Baader (Moritz Bleibtreu), Ulrike Meinhof (Martina Gedeck) and Gudrun Ensslin (Johanna Wokalek) are fighting a violent war against what they perceive as the new face of fascism: American imperialism supported by the German establishment, many of whom have a Nazi past. Their aim is to create a more human society but by employing inhuman means they not only spread terror and bloodshed, they also lose their own humanity. The man who understands them is also their hunter: the head of the German police force Horst Herold (Bruno Ganz). And while he succeeds in his relentless pursuit of the young terrorists, he knows he’s only dealing with the tip of the iceberg.

Based on the book by and in consultation with Stefan Aust.

THE BAADER MEINHOF COMPLEX is based on true and compelling events and is an informative, intelligent and quality film experience. It will screen on opening night at the Festival of German Films in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane (in mid-late April) and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

In Cinemas May 7

To go in the draw to win a double pass to advanced screenings The Baader Meinhof Complex (May 1-3), simply answer the following question: what is your favourite film either based in Germany, or made in Germany?

Winners will be drawn Friday April 24.

BUFFALO SOLDIERS is an excellent under-rated film starring Joaquin Phoenix, set in an American army base in Germany.

The lives of others. I find the post WWII division of east/west Berlin and Germany both compelling and disturbing.

Metropolis, an incredible technical feat for 1927, the most expensive film ever made in its day.

Das Experiment - chilling masterpiece inspired by the Stanford prison experiment. "Regular, normal" people are involved in a paid experiment where they take on the roles of either prison guards or prisoners. Excellent acting performances make this story believably shocking as those involved begin to take their roles seriously...

The Boy In Striped Pyjamas - saw the preview screening on the weekend, a very hard hitting story of Nazi German through the eyes of an innocent 8 year old. Should have been done in the German language for more impact.
