As a Motown fan from the mid 60's, I would normally look forward to a gig like this, but I don't think I'd get through a Jimmy Barnes set. Jimmy once described himself as a "Memphis Man" I don't know which Memphis he's on about;certainly not the one in Tennessee! Jimmy doesn't sing, he SHOUTS! He's no soul singer.

I agree with Chris about Jimmy Barnes LOL I love jimmy but he is NOT Motown at all

neither is Joan Osborne!!!

So much I like Jimmy Barnes as an Aussie rocker but being with the motown legend he was out place, so do his daughter and Ian Moss. They actually ruined this Motown event.

LOVED THE MOTOWN CONCERT INCLUDING JIMMY IAN AND MAHALIA GREAT MUSIC ALL NIGHT......

The Motown Concert to celebrate 50 years of Motown was a real tribute to an amazing time where this style of music captured a world wanting to dance and live the lyrics. Last night at the Sydney Concert we were treated to the real sound of motown and the fabulous artists who made it all happen. But why was Jimmy B there ? Where was Guy Sebastian who is a memphis man ! Jimmy screaming and screaching was NOT THE MOTOWN SOUND and a bad choice for the Motown Concert. Peter.

Went to the Motown Concert which was fabulous. Only spoiled somewhat by the presence of Jimmy Barnes screaming his set. What was he doing there? The real Motown Performers must be wondering the same. He would have realized the audience had had enough of him by the end of his set, by their lukewarm applause. I know Jimmy can sing (when he's not screaming) and the crowd would have responded more favourably. His performance compared to the refined offering from the Temptations and the Four Tops left us all wondering.

Omitted in my last post.... the band led by Chong Lim was outstanding. Thankyou to all of them, you were a big part of the success of the show.

delwynne, it seems the real Motown performers are wondering. Had a chat to one of their managers - just one of those life little accidents and no point in giving more details - who, when I told him I thought JB was a mistake, said, "All we knew about him, was that he was one of the best-selling artists in Australia." Then he added,"This song [I Heard It On The Grapevine] shouldn't be sung like that. I always sit this set out."

As a true Motown fan from the 60s, I was very disappointed with the concert, mainly because the sound was terrible - muffled and too heavy on the base and echo-like. We had trouble understanding any of the words, and noticed the artists kept fiddling with their earpieces so they were probably having similar trouble. Jimmy Barnes was ghastly. Joan Armstrong was boring. Will never go to the Entertainment Centre again because of the sound system.

Went with my wife and special treat for my daughter Gabrielle, great night supremes, vandelas, four tops, great. Then Jimmy Barnes and daughter screamed us out of the place, left early just couldnt take it.

it was all great - save your money you killjoys, stay home and watch reality television - joan was sensational as was martha - loved it all - wished it wouldn't stop!!
