I'll admit that he's attracted a few too many slavish imitators and that his early records began to grow a bit stale - which is why his wife encourged him to switch up his style circa Rain Dogs. If you don't appreciate Waits you don't actually care about music. You probably view it as a fashion accesory or a fucking soundtrack
Though Waits can work for those purposes as well
