Underbelly Arts Lab + Festival 2008
July 3-13, 2008
For it’s second year running, the final day of the Underbelly Arts Festival at the Carriageworks in Redfern presented an explosive display of creativity. Catering to all types; art lovers, critics or just anyone out for a new experience, the festival was packed to the rafters with differing forms of art.
The atmosphere was brimming with energy as patrons strolled through the foyer inspecting the walls and ceiling for paintings, installations, a large ant sculpture atop a vintage car, stainless steel windmills, bunny suited acrobats and interactive new-media artworks.
From the foyer five bays held live performances, which you were informed about via the loud speaker. If you missed a show the program was repeated and the bar began to pick up just after five. The Bus stop café provided hot drinks and food.
A personal favourite for the day was the dreadlock corset, also the two acrobat bunnies masterfully performed to the “run rabbit, run” soundtrack. For my first visit to the Festival, I will resolutely be back next year, great for a Sunday afternoon of art and entertainment.
