The eighth annual Sydney Comedy Festival has announced its first release of shows that will headline the Festival’s eighth incarnation from 24th April to 12th May, 2012.

Led by fan favourite Ross Noble (UK), the Festival is celebrating the return of Henry Rollins (USA), Stephen K Amos (UK), Akmal (AUS), Jimeoin, (AUS) Mark Watson (UK), Steve Hughes (AUS), and after a two year absence, the irrepressible David O’Doherty (IRE).

In what the Sydney Comedy Festival director Jorge Menidis described as “a coup for Sydney audiences” the Festival is particularly pleased to announce the BAFTA nominated, award-winning English comedian, television presenter, screenwriter and actor Simon Amstell (UK).

Opening night of the Sydney Comedy Festival will kick off once again with the much anticipated Cracker Night Gala Showcase. Featuring a unique mix of international comedy royalty, home grown talent and burgeoning stars, Cracker Night is the biggest comedy show in Sydney and sees tickets sell out in record time each year.

Finally in an Australian first, the Festival will feature the live on stage premiere of the controversial SBS cult comedy series Housos. Featuring the most popular characters from the TV series, Housos – F#@cked in The Face Tour promises to be outrageously funny if not simply outrageous.

With over 300 performances across 20 venues over three hilarious weeks, the Sydney Comedy Festival is one of Sydney's major annual cultural events.
