MASS Music Festival set to bring waves of talent to Margaret River.
Waves of talent, we tell you.
Let us introduce MASS, new to the 2010 festival program and paving the way for a new kind of surfing comp. MASS is part of the Drug Aware Pro, presented by Rusty and is a unique combo of Music, Arts, Surf and Style. See what we did there? The festival, held from 16–21 March will add a creative and lifestyle element to the surf competition in and around the surf capital of WA, Margaret River.
Following the Women’s Final on Saturday afternoon March 20, the music component will kick off, headlined by Perth rock stalwarts Gyroscope. Fans have had a taste of their highly anticipated new album due out in April this year, with “Live Without You”, which has been on Triple J high rotation over the summer.
Joining them will be progressive rockers Cog, one of Australia’s most highly respected independent bands who can proudly boast that their 2005 debut album was nominated for a J Award from Triple J. Pretty impressive stuff. The young rockers will feature alongside prominent Melbourne-based rock group Eddy Current Suppression Ring who have wowed the crowds on the recent Laneway Festival tour.
Psychadelic hypno-groovers Tame Impala, rumoured to be on the line up of some of the biggest international festivals this year will also heading to Margs along with Sydney faves Philadelphia Grand Jury.
Hip-hop MC Urthboy will be sure to impress, much like his HUGE Southbound set, as will party spinners Yacht Club DJs and local upstarts King George.
And opening the MASS Music Festival will be the winner of a local band competition to be held on Wednesday March 17 at The Settlers Tavern in Margaret River.
