Description:
We want to bring you up close to the artists and musos, to see how they
think, work, make. Creativity is not an end point, it’s a process – and we’d like
you to share it. We’d also like our visiting artists to get a sense of Hobart and
its people; to pool creative energy with our own, local artists and musicians.
MOFO 2O1O continues its commitment to workshops and introduces the
Eminent Artist in Residence (EAR) program.
The MOFO 2O1O EAR is John Cale. Now, John is one seriously multitalented
mofo, and this is a big coup for Hobart. An early innovator of minimalism and
founding member of Velvet Underground, John has worked with Iggy Pop,
Patti Smith, John Cage and Lou Reed. MOFO audiences will hear him speak
about his creative background and philosophy, and local musicians will get
to perform with him. You may also see him playing ping-pong at PW1.
Keen punters get close to Cat Hope. Cat is our renaissance woman – a
composer, performer, sound, video, dance and noise artist. She is also a
bass guitarist and will perform alone and with workshop participants.
Jon Rose, Robin Fox, Rod Cooper and Paul Bryant present Pursuit.
They will workshop, with local musos and bike-shop workers. The result
appears at PW1 on MOFO’s opening weekend. Robin will also appear with
Anthony Pateras, Marco Fusinato and Oren Ambarchi in Another Heap of
Language. (Last year’s punters will recall Robin’s laser spectacular).
Australia’s Jim Denley and Norway’s Kim Myhr push the limits of
improvisation. Their style is unpredictable and complex, and they
will share their methods with work-shoppers and musicians.
