PROTOTYPE showcases the results of Alexander Lotersztain and Design Object Tasmania’s (DOT) ongoing partnership which has been directed largely toward facilitating collaborations between the Tasmanian manufacturing and design sectors. Named one of the Top 100 most influential designers in the world Alexander Lotersztain’s design studio has established an outstanding global client base while maintaining a firm commitment to manufacturing in Australia. In 2011, Alexander visited Tasmania at the invitation of Designed Objects Tasmania (DOT) and conducted a series of workshops, industry visits and networking events. The aim was to link Tasmanian furniture manufactures, furniture designers and design educators to increase market competitiveness, sustainability and resource efficiency within the industry. Alexander, in collaboration with DOT, has pared Tasmanian designers with local manufactures to develop and produce a series of furniture prototypes.
