Step into the world of big hats, veils, lace, satin, moustaches, pipes, sunshine and shimmery rain this summer as the National Portrait Gallery presents an exhibition of Australian portraits from 1885 to 1915. Including some portraits by artists including Tom Roberts, Arthur Streeton and Frederick McCubbin, sourced from public and private collections around the country, the show is a mix of large oil portraits, drawings, sculpture and impressionistic sketches that are remarkable for their freshness and immediacy. The exhibition allows an insight into an intertwined community of people to whom art was life itself. Opening times: Daily,10am - 5pm. Closed Christmas Day Contact National Portrait Gallery for details and further enquiries.
