FRINGE WORLD officially opened its doors for the ‘4 Day Weekend’ on Australia Day, Jan 26, and the fun continues this Saturday and Sunday with a whole range of free Fringe fun for the whole family. This afternoon in the Perth Cultural Centre there will be plenty to bring the family to, with Cranksters putting on a showcase of very hot Kustom vintage cars, a gathering of push-bike enthusiasts with Parts for Polo!, an Arctic Mini-Festival, Almost Arctic, a knitted cubby house to visit for a tea party, and performances in the Spiegeltent by Kids Cabaret Splat! and Shadow Puppet extraordinaire Sticks, Stones, Broken Bones. Keep cool in this heatwave, with a little tasted of a polar adventure this afternoon from 4pm-8pm. The Edge of the World: Almost Arctic is a free, interactive event, with an icy theme, offering the chance to play with ice, visit an igloo, dress up as an Antarctic adventurer, learn polar origami and enjoy some snow cones. OnWilliam’s Laneway Night Markets will also be happening along Perth’s longest laneway stretch from the Cultural Centre up behind William Street on both Saturday and Sunday. Shop for the curious and creative as local artists and designers showcase their wares and sample tasty delights into the night. Tonight there are shows happening all around the city, with Barry Morgan’s World of Organs at the Perth Town Hall, Panache doing a one off show at the Treasury Cabaret, and the likes of Lucha Royale, Bean, Bye Bye World, The Yellow Wallpaper and Chicago Typewriter taking up various rooms through the Treasury hub. Over at the Spiegeltent, performances from Briefs, Die Roten Punkte and Peep will keep audiences entertained from 9pm until late. On Sunday, come down and get a little bit crafty with Crafternoon in the Perth Cultural Centre, or relax in the Love2Read Café outdoor reading room, which will be set up outside the State Library from Jan 21 all the way through to Feb 26. FRINGE WORLD are also lucky enough to have the inaugural Perth Chinese New Year Fair happening on Sunday Jan 29 throughout Northbridge. This event, produced by the Chung Wah Association and the Chinese Community of Perth, will take place on James Street in Northbridge from noon to 9pm, with activities including stalls, street performances, lion and dragon dances, international photography exhibition and a multicultural concert.
