Cabinets of Curiosity or Wunderkammern were the sixteenth and seventeenth century personal collections of wealthy aristocratic men. These collections were often compiled during their grand tours of Europe, or through their connection to the discovery and conquest of the new world. These cabinets were works of art within themselves, displaying not only beautiful and rare objects, but also the strange, primitive or curious.
