"The A&R Department, get the music right and then helps you get it out there... Musicians taking back control!!! We are musicians, songwriters producers, it's a music centric company, it's all about the content and empowering artists....it's back to the basics of the artistry of songwriting... chords and melody, producing special records and developing your own artistic vision/brand for song & sound". The A&R Department is an independent artist development and music services company working with artists from across Australia. The A&R Department's ethos is "we get the music right and then help you get it out there". The A&R Department knows how to navigate the music industry, and offers accessible and affordable guidance in all facets of 'the music biz'. The A&R Department was founded by Managing Director, Matt O'Connor who was formally Head of A&R at Warner Music Australia. Over the years Matt has built an enviable reputation for discovering, nurturing, and developing exciting new talent. Through The A&R Department, Matt has been able to devote himself entirely to his passion for independent Australian music, sharing his industry experience and empowering artists to make great music and get it heard. Over recent months Matt has worked with a collection of Sydney artists who have drawn strong media attention and critical acclaim through their efforts. The Music Makers Club provides an opportunity to express their collective talents in one special evening. “I was discussing the concept of The A&R department to Mark Gerber and we came up with idea of calling the night "The Music Makers Club" MUSIC BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE as both parties agree it fits like a glove”.
