The Bairn are Michael O’Halloran (guitar, ukelele, vocals), Ross Roache (guitar, banjo, vocals) and Terry Jacob (accordion, fiddle, mandolin). Ross and Mick performed as The Slimy Brothers for 20 years around Brisbane and Northern New South Wales. Terry joined the line-up in January this year, and The Bairn was born. They perform mostly their own material—laconic stories in music and verse of the laid-back, humorous, sentimental and often blunt realities of life in Australia, past and present. They’re working on their first CD and will be performing at the Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass Festival in October. The Switch are - Alison St Ledger, Sallie Campbell and Dave McGuire. Louisiana Swamp Sounds, Ozark Jubilation and Laurel Canyon Inspired Balladry. After a tour of regional Queensland last year with the Brisbane Cabaret Festival show, Tom Waits for No Man, Sallie, Dave and Alison found themselves spending their down time singing Pogues ballads in Maleny, jamming on Jimi Hendrix tunes in Hughenden , West Indian love songs in West End and digging all manor of blues and roots tunes from Cairns to Gympie. Along the way they discovered a unique interplay between voice, guitar, mandolin and violin which falls somewhere between the worlds of blues, folk, blue grass, roots and country music. Fueled by their mutual passion for a beautiful melody, a haunting refrain and a well turned phrase, they have been writing songs together and have come up with a swath of new tunes at a rapid rate which they plan to record real soon.
