Sheila Callaghan’s That Pretty Pretty; Or, the Rape Play is a powerful and darkly funny play that subverts stage conventions and, in the playwright’s own words, finds ‘joy within the anger’. A pair of radical feminist ex-strippers scour the country on a murderous rampage against right-wing pro-lifers, blogging about their exploits in gruesome detail. Meanwhile, a scruffy screenwriter named Owen tries to bang out his magnum opus in a hotel room as his best friend Rodney ("The Rod") holds forth on rape and other manly enterprises. When Owen decides to incorporate the strippers into his screenplay, the boundaries of reality begin to blur, and only a visit from Jane Fonda can help keepworlds from blowing apart. . "Raunchy, savvy... the twisted, caffeinated world of the show imagines the collective unconscious of a culture where girls never stop going wild... Callaghan pushes her audience's buttons with an aggressive treatment of some of the darker corners of the human psyche." -The New York Times Playwright Sheila Callaghan (Dead City, Crumble, We are Not These Hands) was profiled by Marie Claire as one of "18 Successful Women Who Are Changing the World." She was also named one of Variety magazine’s "10 Screenwriters to Watch”. That Pretty Pretty; Or, The Rape Play is directed by NettaYashchin and stars Zoe Trilsbach, Katherine Beck, Kellie Jones, Troy Harrison and Ben O’Donnell. Design by Dylan Tonkin, with Larry Kelly (lighting) and Guy Fenech (sound). This production marks the debut of exciting young ‘indie’ Workhorse Theatre Company. An ensemble of hard-working artists committed to taking risks, truthfully telling 'the story', they aim to collaborate on all levels to produce thought-provoking theatre.Other productions planned for 2012 include Savage In Limbo by John Patrick Shanley.
