In 1921, Vita Sackville-West and Violet Trefusis had a lesbian affair that rocked Edwardian society. To dispel further scandal, Violet left for Paris and Vita threw herself into a life as a novelist, gardener and diplomat's wife. She also wrote a nasty little book, which implied Violet had betrayed her. Years later, it has been a hell of a day. Vita is already unnerved by an early morning suicide attempt from her houseguest, Virginia Woolf. Now she must face her past when an unexploded bomb forces the expatriate Violet to take refuge in her house too. The very fortress she has built to protect herself is about to come down.
