Robyn Nevin will don the royal crown in Queen Lear for the exciting MTC debut of director Rachel McDonald and her adaptation of William Shakespeare’s devastating tragedy. Abdicating her power, Lear holds a contest for her daughters with a portion of her empire as a prize. When one child refuses to play, the tragedy that ensues will lead Lear from power to powerlessness, from reason to madness and, ultimately, from blindness to insight. Lear is an epic story of kinship that pulls apart the nature of human suffering and the complex play between good versus evil. The Queen of Australian theatre, Robyn Nevin will take on the Everest of all roles, Lear, which has been performed by acting legends such as Sir Ian McKellen, John Bell, Derek Jacobi and Paul Scofield. Also appearing will be Rohan Nicol and Genevieve Picot.
