Climate change comes to the stage in the Australian premier of Richard Bean’s stimulating black comedy The Heretic. One of Australia’s most loved actresses Noni Hazlehurst will join forces with director Matt Scholten. Climate Change Studies has suddenly become the hotest degree at the University of YUIST, knocking off the Arts and Psychology degrees and even Media Studies, which have long reigned. Dr Diane Cassell is the lead academic in Earth Sciences and, although far from being a climate change sceptic, she is nevertheless a serious scientist who wants the facts to speak for themselves. Diane has been measuring the sea levels in the Maldives for many years and, when her data contradict a key doctrine on global warming theory, the Head of the Earth and Science Faculty, Kevin Maloney, puts the screws on Diane to make the science conform. As the issue starts to become not only political but personal, Diane’s life really heats up.
