International troubadour Carus Thompson returns to Trinity Sessions after a couple of years with his new album CARAVAN in tow. Recorded between studios in England, Germany and Australia, it’s an album that speaks of Carus’s time on the road split over two continents. It's been a huge year for Thompson - European and Australian release tours of Caravan, some huge reviews… and the arrival of his first child. Originally coming to prominence as part of the explosion of the roots scene, this Freo born folk-rocker has shown, after three highly acclaimed records that he's also a gifted songwriter and storyteller - in the tradition of artists like Paul Kelly and Mick Thomas. Worldwide, Carus Thompson has sold over 30,000 CDs independently and supported luminaries such as Dave Matthews, Xavier Rudd, Damien Rice, Jack Johnson, John Butler and The Waifs. The last few years have seen him touring non-stop across Europe, playing to a rapidly expanding fan base where his music has found a huge place for itself in Germany and the UK, backed up by strong alternative radio play and sold out shows. One of the few truly independent Australian troubadours to be able to carve a full time living from his craft, years of far flung touring have assured Thompson possesses the enviable ability to draw hundreds of people anywhere he goes. It’s not something he takes for granted and you'll see how much he values a crowd as he give his all to every performance. A gifted songwriter, but not a shoe gazer - priding himself on his energetic performances and an uncanny ability to engage audiences with his story telling.
Laura Hill is sassy, smooth and her new EP, The Guava Tree is oozing cool. The delightful 6-track arrangement was recorded in the Adelaide Hills with Mick Wordley at the infamous MixMasters Studio. With her band The Tuesday Bandits, a horn section, backing singers and strings, the new direction shows influences from Sheryl Crow, Joss Stone, Kalai and Mason Jennings. Raised on South Australia's south coast, Laura's music reflects a life by the sea and vines; one where everyday is made to feel like Sunday. After extensive touring in 2010 and 2011 with the likes of Ash Grunwald, Kim Churchill, Benjalu, Ashleigh Mannix and Tom Richardson, she is bringing you her melodic wit and onstage charm to Trinity Sessions. Welcome to Summer. 'On arrival a sweet voice lingered from the stage. It was Laura Hill, her performance was exquisite.' (AU Review, 2011) Both Carus and Laura are playing at this year’s Queenscliff Music Festival so it will be great to reunite them on the Trinity Sessions stage. http://carusthompson.com/ http://www.laurahill.com.au/
